Global fitness fundraising campaign mobilizes athletes and supporters to defend the ocean
Sea Shepherd Global today announced the launch of its 2026 Fit for the Ocean Challenge, a global fitness fundraiser running from April 10 to May 5, 2026. The initiative invites participants worldwide to turn their personal fitness goals into direct support for ocean conservation.
The challenge is powered by arena and supported by SurfEars, Barebarics, Beach-Street, and other mission - aligned partners.
Known for its direct-action campaigns to defend marine wildlife and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, Sea Shepherd Global is calling on supporters to take action - no ship required.

Participants can choose any physical activity - swimming, running, paddling, hiking, or other endurance goals - and set a personal distance or performance target. After registering, individuals or teams create a fundraising page and share their challenge with their networks. Funds raised will directly support Sea Shepherd Global’s frontline operations to protect marine biodiversity and enforce conservation laws in partnership with national authorities.
"Fit for the Ocean connects personal discipline with global impact,” said Christopher Storey. “Every kilometer completed and every euro raised helps power real-world interventions to defend ocean ecosystems.”
“Water defines our sport and it defines arena. Through ‘Fit for the Ocean,’ we stand with Sea Shepherd to turn personal performance into concrete action for the ocean.”, Peter Graschi, CEO of arena.
Global Athletes Join as Ambassadors
The 2026 challenge will feature international athlete ambassadors - from professional swimmers to CrossFit competitors - who will help motivate participation and amplify the campaign across social media. By combining athletic performance with environmental advocacy, the ambassadors aim to expand awareness beyond traditional conservation audiences.
Participants who share their progress using the hashtag #fitfortheocean on Instagram or Facebook will be automatically entered into prize draws. Top fundraisers will be eligible for premium rewards donated by campaign sponsors.
Prizes and Partner Support
arena, a global leader in performance swimwear and aquatic sports equipment, serves as headline sponsor of the 2026 challenge. Additional prizes and partner contributions include:
- Performance gear from arena
- SurfEars ear protection
- Barebarics barefoot shoes
- Beach-Street reef-safe sunscreen
- A Nelo kayak made from recycled plastic
- Exclusive Sea Shepherd Global merchandise
The prize structure is designed to incentivize both broad participation and high-impact fundraising, reinforcing the link between personal performance and conservation outcomes.
A Growing Global Movement
The Fit for the Ocean Challenge reflects Sea Shepherd Global’s broader strategy of engaging supporters beyond traditional donation models. By combining physical endurance with peer-to-peer fundraising, the campaign transforms individual fitness goals into measurable contributions toward marine protection.
Funds raised will support active campaigns targeting destructive fishing practices, marine habitat destruction, and threats to ocean wildlife around the world.
